Orientation and Intermediate: the Initial Years of Formation:

The formation to the Religious life and Priestly life begin with the one year of Orientation course, and then two years of Intermediate studies.

Functioning of the House

Orientation Period:

It is a period for the Candidate to be aware of the Value of the Vocation, and in turn it’s an opportunity for the community to know about the candidate: intellectual and emotional maturity, psychological and physical fitness for the religious life. Here the time table and program is well arranged, so that they are gradually introduced to the Carmelite Religious Life. Since they come from different backgrounds and are not used to a particular time-table, so the step by step introduction helps them to get familiar and consciously engage in the activities.

Classes:

there are classes arranged during the day which are taken by our own Friars who take their time to come share their Vocation experience and impart their knowledge with regard to the basic elements of Christian life, Religious life, Carmelite Religious life, Priestly life, the word of God, the Liturgy, along with Spoken English Classes in order to equip them for further studies.

Manuel Work and Games:

These two are compulsory parts of the time table. This is in view of teaching the value of work and personal health.

Spiritual Activities:

Prayer, which is the important characteristic of Carmelite Life, is introduced Carmelite way of Prayer, which in subsequent years of formation the candidate has to progress. Hence, right from getting up an atmosphere of Prayer is created through music as they wake up and then followed by Prayer and Holy Eucharistic Celebration, mid day prayer and Evening Prayer and Night Prayer before going to bed. Further every second Saturday of the month monthly recollection, besides annual retreat for a week. We recite novena prayers before the feasts of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Therese of Child Jesus, and to Infant Jesus, etc. this is in order to lead them into develop taste for the Prayer.

Intermediate:

It’s a two year program of secular studies. The time-table and activities are almost same except for the day, during which they go to College (which is 8 KM away from the house) for the studies. This is a time for the candidates to nurture their Vocation, though their time mostly involved in studies. During this stage the candidate though engaged in studies, his human, intellectual, spiritual formation is also promoted. Therefore, at this stage the gradual holistic maturation of the student is given more attention. And there are celebrations, recreation, annual picnic which to bring unity, fraternity and creativity among the Candidates.
