St. Antony’s Shrine, Joharapuram, Kurnool

St. Antony shrine at Joharapuram is a Carmelite parish which is taken care by Carmelite Friars in St. Teresa’s Monastery, Kurnool. It is in the diocese of Kurnool. It was bifurcated from the diocesan Co-Cathedral and was made as parish in 2000. It was then the parish was given to us Carmelites to cater the needs of the faithful. Faith formation was one of the motives of our missionaries. Our missionaries readily accepted the parish and enthused to render pastoral services to these spiritual hungry faithful. They used to travel from one village to another village Catechizing, Baptizing, Educating and bringing social awareness to them and promoting their wellbeing in various ways.

Devotion to St. Antony has always been part of this parish and was celebrated solemnly every year right from the beginning of the parish. A miracle which took place on 17th Feb, 2004 furthered this devotion to a great extent. When our Carmelite Friar was praying in the noon, he notices that the eyes of the saint statue were opened and looked like human eyes. It was proved and approved by the doctors that it is true. Since that day faithful have been coming to the shrine from different parts of the state as well as the neighbouring states to visit the blessed statue and offer prayers there.
There were also other attributes miracles, such as healings, lost things are found, getting jobs and other such blessings. Everyone irrespective of religion, and sect visit the shrine on Tuesday Novena and regularly before they go for their daily jobs.
